ICT self-review in practice

Early childhood education settings can work through a self-review to consider the types of equipment they own and how they use it for the purposes of teaching and learning. 

ICT self-review in practice

In 2009, Johnsonville Playcentre undertook a self-review that focused on how they used ICT and how these ICT could be better utilised.  This Wellington Region Playcentre had a digital camera, a donated laptop and had just brought a multi-function printer.  These were used for documenting children’s learning – the digital camera being the most used ICT of the three. The Playcentre wanted to see how these tools could be used for more effective communication within the centre community. 

 For self-review to be most effective it requires team commitment and contribution from each teaching team member. For Johnsonville Playcentre, a parent co-operative with over 60 family educators across its seven sessions, it was not possible for every family to be directly involved. Instead, a seven-member ICT team took responsibility for the review and involved the parent community at each step of the process.
