Seminar one – Learning communities and collaboration for change (17 or 18 September)

This will be the first in a series of four seminars run by the Ministry of Education to support the work of the learning community clusters.

This two hour seminar is an opportunity for all members of the learning community clusters in greater Christchurch to hear about the benefits of working collaboratively in learning communities. Additionally, it is proposed that learning communities will be able to share information across greater Christchurch of things that they have been doing. MoE staff from the ECE, special education and property teams will be available to answer any questions from 6pm and again after the seminar ends.

 Speakers

  1. Russel Dunn, Deputy Principal of Tamaki College, Auckland. Russel is the lead for the Manaiakalani Programme Implementation at Tamaki College and plays a key role with other schools in the network.  Manaiakalani has had considerable success in raising the achievement across a number of decile 1 schools in Tamaki. They collaborate with students, schools, cluster, commercial partners, volunteers and academics who are part of Manaiakalani.
  2. Hornby Network – Dick Edmundson (Hornby High), Geoff Allen (GCSN), Kim Ranger (South Hornby Kindergarten) Gary Roberts (Hornby Primary). The Hornby Network was established some years ago and has worked collaboratively on a number of projects. These include a transitions network between ECE and junior primary, and the establishment of Hornby Connect – a multi- agency approach for youth in Hornby.
  3. Derek Wenmoth – Core Education. Derek will explain the Greater Christchurch Learning Communities – an on-line space for learning communities to engage in virtual discussions, and how this can support the work of learning communities.

Tea, coffee and finger food will be provided.
