I like what John Key says about leadership.

Leadership is a set of qualities and values that people can respect and look up to.  It’s about inspiring people, recognising their talents and their abilities and giving them the confidence to be the best they can be.  It’s about being true to yourself- living in a way that other people admire and in which they can see the better parts of themselves.  It’s about being a team player, realising that you can’t get far in this world on your own and that if you help other people they will help you in return.  And perhaps, most importantly it’s about responsibility- recognising that the people you lead have put their faith, their trust and their loyalty in you, and that you, in turn, must put your faith, trust and loyalty in them.”

Leadership is about nurturing and developing leadership in others.  Empowering others and igniting passion for what they do.  Leadership is knowing that you can never know enough.  Leadership is respecting all others and seeking first to understand, then to be understood.

Leaders need to look at things through a variety of lenses. Sometimes knowing what not to do is as important as knowing what to do. Leaders need to establish good group relationships as a key role is to draw out the best in others within your group.
