85 per cent of the apps purchased for their children were just ''drill and practice'' games that asked children to repeat an action or remember simple facts. Such apps lead to lower-level neural development and often include excessive rewarding that can create unrealistic expectations in children.
Following on from Sharon's post, Mindshift's recent blog post also addresses screen time, poorly designed apps and apps to help foster learning. The end quote reasonates with me,
"Early education should provide a foundation for critical thinking, including thinking critically about technology and digital media."
